Sleep is essential to good health. A good night’s rest is not only the time for our body and mind to rejuvenate, but it is vital to keep our body’s fat-burning engine running longer. According to Prevention Magazine (December 2003), “Not getting a good night’s sleep can disrupt your body’s normal ability to process and control various weight-related hormones (glucose, cortisol, and thyroid hormones). Lack of sleep may also make it harder to control cravings.” Quoting again from the same article, “Studies have shown that lavender slows down your nervous system, promotes relaxation, and improves sleep quality.” This is something we at Hood River Lavender have known and proven for some time now. Lavender has been proven to slow down the brain waves, and the New York Times (see below) have published articles on the usage of Lavender with Alzheimer and Dementia patients showing marked calming and settling down of the patients.
